Drawbot
A loud whiteboard plotter
Overview
The Drawbot is a two-axis whiteboard plotter that Justin Bakse and I built and iterated on in our spare time. The first prototype was a simple screw drive made from zip ties, heat-shrink tubing and a yardstick; by the last, we were using laser-cut panels and 3D-printed parts. It runs on an Arduino with an Adafruit Motor Shield, driven by a Processing app that turns SVG graphics into drawing commands.
Plotting text with it is what led to my single-stroke fonts. Justin documented some of our finished drawings and the prototyping process.
