Overview
Data Defense was a game Red Paper Heart built for Google Chrome Enterprise at the 2023 Bloomberg Technology Summit. Players teamed up around a touch table and used a stylized Chrome window to identify, capture and destroy browser threats coming at them from every side, in short timed rounds with several difficulty levels.
Over three days more than 300 teams played. Scores were kept through each day, and the top teams went up on a leaderboard on a large LED screen above the space. The game and leaderboard were built in Unity.
My role
I led development with one junior developer, and designed the game itself: not the artwork, but how it plays.
- Designed the gameplay: the rules, the difficulty levels, and a cast of threats that each behave differently
- Built the game's structure and state control in Unity: the timed rounds, difficulty levels and scoring
- Built the game's effects in Unity
- Installed and set up the machines on site for the three-day summit
